Bad Economics

I was just looking over some online book review websites and was struck by the preponderance of right wing and conservative works and the relative paucity of books giving the liberal, progressive, and democratic leftist perspectives on social and economic issues.  It seems the popular culture of the USA currently runs rather markedly toward the right wing and conservative end of the spectrum. Why?  Probably many reasons, I suppose.  But you know what I suspect is likely the number one reason?  The ubiquity of bad economics, that is, flawed presentations of a weak theory perpetually prone to misinterpretation and indeed very likely created with that end in mind.  I really believe coming to grips with the intellectual and moral cancer of anti-democratic right-wing conservatism means above all else coming to grips with the baleful intellectual influence of its ubiquitous but elusive father: traditional neoclassical economic theory.  I feel perhaps I’ve done my part or the lion’s share of my part in my book.  (Please see my tab on ebooks.)  But have I?  Yes, I’ve presented a copy of my findings to the Temple of Truth.  I’ve added my little bit to the public record.  But what are my ethical responsibilities to now help people find the place?  Well, I don’t really know.  I suppose a man’s work is never really done, is it?  There’s a horrible thought.  Well, maybe I can split the difference.  What I intend to do in this blog is pass on some lighter tidbits relating to bad economics.  Stay tuned for a laugh or two, and when you feel in a serious mood please do check out my book.
